NEW DELHI: Following an hour-long interrogation, Delhi police on Monday arrested husband of the flight attendant who allegedly had jumped off the terrace of her home in south Delhi.
On July 13, Anissia Batra (39), an employee with German airlines, allegedly jumped off the terrace of her Panchsheel Park home. She was married to Mayank Singhvi for two years.
An FIR was lodged with Hauz Khas police station under IPC section 340 B (dowry death) in connection with the case on Saturday night and investigation began.
The FIR alleged Anissia faced assault by her husband since early days of her marriage.
Earlier in the day, the police had issued a lookout notice to the husband, his parents and others to join the interrogation. They seized Mayank Singhvi's luxury car, Anissia's diamond ring and their mobile phones. Delhi police also confirmed a board of doctors would conduct a second autopsy that will be videographed, as on demand of the family.
Anissia’s brother Karan had claimed he received a message from his sister on Friday afternoon, calling for help as Mayank has locked her up inside a room. “At around 4 pm she texted that because of him (Mayank) my life is going to end. Please don’t spare him.”
The vicitm’s father, a retired Army major, had also filed a complaint with the police station on June 27 against her husband during his visit to Anissia’s home, expressing concern.
Mayank Singhvi will be produced before magistrate tomorrow, the police said.
