UC Benaulim pip Santa Cruz Cavelossim in close contest

United Club of Benaulim registered a solitary goal win against Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim to enter the quarterfinals of 14th Super Soccer played at St John the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on
Monday.

The all important goal that proved to be the match winner for UC Benaulim came off in the 23rd minute of play following a flag kick which saw attacking medio Nicolas Rodrigues banging
it in.

Consistent efforts of U C Benaulim paid off when R Rodrigues floated the flag kick right where Nicolas Rodrigues stayed position and on receiving the ball he lost no time in sending the ball to the far corner of the rival nets.

The second session saw both the teams dishing out a good brand of soccer as they ball moved on from one end to the other.

On one occasion Leadro Fernandes, Santa Cruz Club attacking medio made a dash for the ball into the box and directed a good shot but the Benaulim keeper stood his ground well.

Making all out efforts to find the leveller, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim almost scored but the powerful shot taken by Jayson Estibiro just missed the mark narrowly.
