5 killed as huge rock rolls down waterfall in J&K

A massive landslide hit famous ‘Siyadh Baba’ waterfall in Reasi district of Jammu division late sunday afternoon in which at least five persons were killed and 29 others received injuries.

“Majority of people were taking bath under the water fall when a massive landslide hit them around 3.20 p.m”, said local police authorities in Reasi.

In the absence of any professional rescuers at the spot local visitors along with policemen on duty launched rescue operations and pulled out injured from the water body.

Panic stricken tourists and local residents enjoying picnic in the area were left stranded for long hours due to ongoing rescue operations.

 Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Prasanna Ramaswamy G said, “five persons were killed and 29 others were injured near Siyadh baba waterfall on sunday”.

He said after giving the first aid treatment all the injured have been shifted to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality hospital near Katra.

Meanwhile, angry family members of the injured blamed the state government agencies for failing to provide better treatment facilities at district hospital, Reasi.

They claimed after the landslide hit locals shifted us in their private vehicles as we kept waiting for ambulances. They claimed in the absence of adequate staff strength in the Reasi district hospital the injured were not getting due care. “Bleeding profusely the injured were seen lying on the floor of the district hospital and more than one person was sharing the same bed before the injured were shifted to Narayana superspeciality hospital in Kakrayal.
