Car used for transporting liquor illegally seized, 35 cartons recovered

Baghsewania police have seized a car transporting liquor illegally and recovered 35 cartons of country made liquor worth Rs 1 lakh near 80 ft road Baghmughalia in the night on Saturday. Acting on a tip off, police stopped a white coloured Tat Tiago car without registration number and when the car was searched, 35 cartons of country made liquor were recovered. Police said that when the car wa s signaled to stop, the driver accelerated and tried to evade but was nabbed. One of the accused identified as Bablu escaped as soon as the car stopped while another accused who was present in the car was nabbed.  The nabbed accused was identified as Sarwar of Sultanpur and runs a hotel at Ponia village.

During the investigation police found that the accused was booked for two cases of assault at Sultanpur and Bareli. A total of 315 litre of liquor was seized from the car. After the preliminary investigation, the police have registered a case under section 34 (A) of the Excise Act. The buyers of the liquor provided by the accused would be investigated in the further investigation.

The action was taken in the ongoing drive to curb the increasing number of illegal trade of liquor in the city and outskirts of the city and received good success in the past few months. The crime record of the accused and his involvement in illegal transport of liquor would be investigated. The nexus behind the illegal liquor trade would be unearthed in the further investigation.
