BENGALURU: Whitefield is one of the highest revenue-generating areas in the city, but it is still plagued by problems like
bad footpaths,
street vendors and
encroachment, among others.
Street vendors have turned out to be a huge menace in the
IT hub where thousands of people work. Employees working in establishments in the Information Technology Park of Bengaluru (ITPB) find it difficult to get out of the enclave, especially through gates 2 and 3, leading to Siddapura Road.
BMTC buses hired by companies, cabs and all other company vehicles travel through Siddapura Road as it is a short-cut to the main road. The 1km Siddapura Road is partially occupied by street vendors, making commuting a nightmare.
“When we are heading home from work, it becomes impossible to travel on the road. Street vendors occupy half the road and we struggle to navigate between them,” said MP Kumar, an employee at ITPB.
The employees as well as residents have already lodged a complaint with Siddapura police station regarding the same, but in vain.
On February 11, the residents also wrote to the BBMP about the street-vendor menace, but five months later nothing has changed. The resident welfare association of Whitefield also raised a complaint on BBMP Sahaya app.
A BBMP official said they plan to clear encroachments by street vendors soon. “We are working towards it and will ensure the road is cleared by Monday,” he said.
