Davies calls for Trump tariff exemptions, warns against car levies

Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies has again argued for an exemption for tariffs on exports of steel and aluminium into the US, saying SA metal exports add value to US manufacturing.

US President Donald Trump announced the decision to levy a 10% tariff on the imports of aluminium products, and a 25% tariff for steel, in early March.

Fuel prices set to again increase in August - AA

South Africans can expect another increase in the price of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin in August, the Automobile Association warned on Monday.

The association said that current data from the Central Energy Fund suggests a price rise of 19 cents a litre for petrol, 13 cents for diesel, and 22 cents for illuminating paraffin.

Russia was the target of almost 25 million cyber-attacks during the World Cup, President Vladimir Putin said, though he did not indicate who may have been behind the attacks.

The president, whose comments were reported by the Kremlin on Monday, gave no information on the nature or possible origins of the cyber-attacks.

New facility aims to boost trade for SA firms in Africa

South Africa has launched a $1bn (R13.24bn) trade facility to help local businesses that want to find new markets in the rest of the continent. 

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Bulelani Magwanishe told Fin24 that the fund would help plans to boost intra-trade in the continent, currently at a paltry 18%.

Media24 and HuffPost to end SA partnership

Media24 and HuffPost announced on Monday that they are mutually ending their partnership in South Africa.

The companies launched HuffPost South Africa as a partnership in November 2016, with Media24 operating the newsroom and driving the commercial aspect of the partnership.
