COIMBATORE: A 30-year-old anganwadi
building in
Sulur, which has 12 students, a cook and a worker, is in a dilapidated condition, said
BJP north district secretary M Ilangovan on Monday.
Ilangovan said the building’s walls had developed big cracks and may collapse any time, endangering the lives and safety of the students studying there.
He urged the district administration to either shift the
anganwadi to a new building or carry out the necessary repairs immediately.
Ilangovan petitioned the district collector to conduct an immediate inspection of the anganwadi building. “The building has been housing the anganwadi in Kannampalayam for more than 30 years. My older son, who now completed college, was in this anganwadi for two years,” said Ilangovan.
“Since no effort was made to maintain this building and it has been exposed to rains, winds and sun for so many decades, it is in a bad condition,” he said.
He said the building was not fit for occupation. “The door has broken and cracked. At least three walls have major cracks. You can even see the steel rods on the terrace,” he said.
“No one has even come to inspect the building, despite our complaints to the Sulur panchayat and taluk office. We need an inspection done immediately and the children to be moved out,” he added.
