The second merit list for admission to First-Year Junior Colleges (FYJC) will be announced by the office of the deputy director of education today at 11am.

Even as over 2 lakh seats are up for grabs, the most prominent colleges across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) have very few vacancies after the first round of admissions ended last week.

Principals said that there is a possibility that the cut-offs would go down only marginally with very few seats remaining.

“Mostly the dip will be marginal. In case more top scorers are yet to secure a seat, there can also be a slight increase in the cut-off like we have seen a couple of years ago” said Hemlata Bagla, principal, KC College, Churchgate.

Parag Thakkar, principal, HR College of Commerce, said “With most seats filled in the first admission round, we are expecting only a marginal dip in the cut-offs this year. However, it also depends on how many students have confirmed admissions after the first cut-off list was put up.”

Most colleges closed their first list above 90%. St Xaviers College closed its list for the Arts stream at 94.2%, while the cut-off for the same stream at Ruia College was 92.2%. NM College in Vile Parle recorded the highest cut-off for Commerce at 94.2%, while Pace Junior College at Andheri closed their first list for Science at 93.5%.

Over 2.1 lakh students have registered for admissions in the MMR region this year, of which over 50,000 students confirmed their seats in the first round. There are close to 3.1 seats across city colleges this year. Students who are allotted seats in the first list have to secure their admissions between July 16 and 18.

Over 7,000 students who were allotted a college of their first preference haven’t confirmed their admissions and would have to wait until end of three admission rounds to apply again.
