Maharashtra: 7 killed as two cars collide near Lonavala due to poor visibility

PUNE: At least seven persons were killed on the spot when two private cars collided on the outskirts of Lonavala in Pune district, an official said here on Sunday. The collision took place near Karla village on the old Mumbai-Pune highway.

One of the vehicles was a Swift and the victims were from Pimpri-Chinchwad. The details of occupants of the other car, a Santro, are not available. The bodies of the victims, as well as some of injured persons, were taken to a local hospital, even as heavy rains lashed the hilly area and rest of the district. The identity of the victims is being ascertained and the cause of the accident is being probed. The accident resulted in massive traffic snarls with hundreds of vehicles stuck on both sides of the old highway as rescue teams cleared the accident site.
