Tourism police raid ‘Illegal businesses’ at Calangute beach

The Tourism department along with the tourism police conducted a raid on Monday and confiscated tables, chairs, tents and umbrellas of seven illegal restaurant owners carrying out business on tourism property near Calangute promenade.

Taking cognizance of a report appearing in this daily over the illegal business by hoteliers by organising candle light dinner and alcohol bottles being dumped at the beach, the tourism police conducted the raid.

The tourism department officials along with the tourism police and a large labour force carried out the drive against the illegal business which was being conducted without any permission from authorities.

Speaking to this daily, assistant director of Tourism Ganesh Teli said that after reading the article which was published in ‘The Navhind Times’ the drive was conducted. He said the drive which started at 3 pm went on till 5 pm and seven restaurants,  Ratna Sagar, Lobo Palm, Sea Queen, Tipsy restaurant, Rosy Roy, Ruban Franco and D’Silva were raided and 80 chairs, 34 tables all plastic, 9 metallic tents from Tipsy restaurant and 2 beach  umbrellas were confiscated at Calangute beach.

Tourism police PSI Gaurish said that he was part of the drive and the police had written to the tourism department on the illegal business being carried out at Calangute and Baga.
