The Hemavati reservoir at Gorur, near here, has been attracting hundreds of people as crest gates have been opened to release water from the dam. The reservoir is full to the brim after four years. The crest gates were opened on Saturday and 15,000 cusecs of water were released to the river.
Hundreds of people from Hassan, Arkalgud, Sakleshpur and Holenarasipur taluks have been visiting the place to witness the spectacular view. On Sunday the crowd was huge. The spot has become a tourist spot all of a sudden. Minister for Public Works H.D. Revanna, during his visit to the dam on Saturday, said the State government would develop a park at a cost of ₹100 crore on the dam premises on the lines of a park developed next to KRS in Mandya district.
As on Sunday morning, the water level in the reservoir was 2,920.15 ft as against the full reservoir level of 2,922 ft. The total storage in the reservoir is 35.31 tmcft. The total flow was at the rate of 19,725 cusecs, including 16,600 cusecs, to the river. The inflow was at the rate of 28,262 cusecs.
