National Conference leader and former assembly member, Ghulam Mohiudin escaped bid on his life Monday afternoon when militants attacked him in Pulwama district, but one of his personnel security officers (PSO) was killed and another injured.

The militants escaped with two rifles of the cops and later posted pictures of both the weapons on the social media, police said.

Police said that former assembly member, Ghulam Mohiudin is safe and blamed Zahoor Ahmad Thokar group of Hizbul Mujahideen responsible for this attack.

A police spokesman said that in the afternoon militants fired indiscriminately at the policemen who were accompanying Rajpora ex-MLA Mohiudin in Muran village, barely three to four kilometers away from the Pulwama town.

“The protected person is safe and secure. However, one of his PSOs Mudasir who was from district police has attained martyrdom while the other PSO Nasir from security wing is stable,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman confirmed that after the firing, the militants snatched the weapons of the policemen.

“Police has registered the case and investigation into the matter has been initiated and based on the initial probe it is learnt that Zahoor Thokar group of proscribed HM terror outfit is involved in it,” he said.

Police suspect that the militants either intercepted the vehicle of the former legislator or attacked him when he probably stopped somewhere.

This year 44 security force personnel including 24 policemen have been killed in various militant attacks. Eleven of the policemen have been killed in four districts of south Kashmir which have now become the hotbed of militancy.
