CHENNAI: Madras high court directed the Saidapet zonal head of Chennai Corporation, authorities of CMDA and PWD concerned to appear in person in the court, in connection with encroachment of Adyar river by a private realty firm.

A division bench of Justice N Kirubakaran and Justice Krishnan Ramaswamy passed the order after it was brought to the notice of the court the encroachment made by Casa Grande Private Limited on the side of Rajiv Gandhi statue abutting Maraimalai Adigalar bridge at Saidapet.

Taking serious view of the encroachment, the bench said, “officials of PWD are directed to serve notice on the builder. The builder shall furnish details of their ownership of the property in which they are proceeding with construction work.
