2019 Corvette ZR1 Thinks 755 HP Is Enough To Beat McLaren’s 720S

By all accounts, the all-new Corvette ZR1 seems to be an extraordinary machine, capable of defeating or at least keeping up with just about anything else on the road.

Underneath, beats a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 heart, producing a massive 755 HP (765 PS) and 715 lb-ft (968 Nm) of torque. It’s all directed to the rear wheels with the help of an 8-speed automatic transmission. Point it in any direction and you’ll be doing 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.85 seconds, on your way to a maximum of 212 mph (341 km/h).

So yes, it’s no joke, especially not after it edged out the Ford GT at Virginia Raceway with a time of 2:37.25.

Unfortunately, its opponent here is a McLaren 720S, the car that dethroned the modded Porsche 911 Turbo as the de facto vehicle you definitely don’t want to mess with in a straight line.

The 720S is so fast, it can put up hypercar numbers, both to 60 mph as well as over a 1/4 mile. On top of that, it also boasts great aerodynamics, making it extremely slippery, which tends to come in handy the faster you go. Also, it’s thought to have a lot more power than advertised, which is indeed an issue – for anyone hoping to outrace it.

So how well did the ZR1 do compared to the 720S? The two cars were raced both from a standstill as well as from a roll and…there’s no other way to put it: one of them got obliterated.
