Select pro-poor programmes to come into focus

RAMANATHAPURAM

The district administration has convened a special grama saba meeting in all the 429 panchayats on July 18 (Wednesday) to sensitise people to the need to achieve saturation in select pro-poor programmes and educate them on the ban on plastic items, which came into force in the district from July 1.

Stating that the district had been identified as one of the 117 ‘aspirational districts’ in the country for achieving overall development under ‘New India Vision 2022’, Collector S. Natarajan said the special grama sabba meeting had been convened to discuss ways and means to achieve saturation in select indicators.

At the national level, indicators such as health, nutritious food, education, agriculture and irrigation, basic needs of villages, financial inclusion and skill development had been selected as areas of special focus, the Collector said.

To achieve saturation in these indicators, the district administration had been taking steps as per the Centre’s guidelines after integrating all connected departments, he said, adding the district administration offered skill development training to unemployed educated youth under ‘Kaushal Panjee’.

He said the district administration also focussed on offering Mudra loans to encourage and small and micro enterprises.

He appealed to the public to participate in the gram sabha meeting in large numbers and express their views. “The special grama sabha meeting has been convened exclusively to create awareness of various welfare programmes implemented by the Central and State governments and ensure the benefits reach the people,” the Collector said.
