Social media post flares communal tension

Six persons were injured in communal clashes that flared up in the at Punch Mandir area of the Six unit due to a social media post on Friday. Although the situation was brought under control quickly by the local police, it still remains tense.

Peace meetings are being held in the leadership of Bermo block development officer Akhilesh Kumar. According to the BDO local youth of Raja bazar of Bokaro thermal had made a post on the social media grossly criticising a particular community and made public.

This post infuriated the members of another community. Youths of both the communities carrying traditional weapons attacked each other seriously injuring five persons. Reaching to the spot, the police controlled the situation and brought some of them to the Bokaro thermal police station.

A group of Bajrang Dal activists reached the police station and began demonstrating against the attack, demanding immediately arrest of the culprits.

Local markets remained closed. Social activist Babu Lal Giri and seven other people including Raosan Karmali, Aswani Kumar Yadav, Monu Kumar, Suraj Kumar, Hrithik Kumar, Toffik Raja and MD Afridi were injured in the clashes.

All the injured have been admitted to the DVC hospital, BTPS. A case (90/18) has been lodged under the IPC of 147, 148, 149, 341, 323, 325, 326, 307, 504 and 506.
