CHENNAI: Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Perambur, beat MCC Higher Secondary School 3-2 in the final of Mini World Cup, organised by Don Bosco School, Egmore. The five-a-side tournament drew good response mainly due to the initiative of Rev Fr Gerald Miranda. Former player of the Indian football team and current assistant coach of Chennayin FC, Sabir Pasha was the chief guest and distributed prizes.
Best defender: S Naresh Kumar (Don Bosco, Perambur). Best goalkeeper: Karthick J (Velammal). Best player: Md Liyakath (Sir Mutha School). Promising player: Yohan D Joseph (Don Bosco, Egmore). Top scorer: Akilesh (MCC School).

St Joseph’s win

St Joseph’s Girls Higher Secondary School won the girls’ crown at the 1st junior Salem district throwball championship for boys and girls at the District Institute of Education and Training in Salem. T Balavinayakam, treasurer of Throwball Federation of India who is also president of the Tamil Nadu Throwball Association, gave away the awards. The tournament was played in a league format.
Boys Winner: Sengunghar Mahajana Zee Hr Sec School. Best player: Vinoth (Sengunghar Mahajana Zee Hr Sec School).

Girls Winner: St Joseph’s Girls Hr Sec School. Runners-up: Ekalaiva Mat Hr Sec School. Best player: Gowri Sankari (St Joseph’s Girls Hr Sec School).

Velammal score

Velammal School, Mogappair, won the inter-school under-19 volleyball tournament for boys organised by NSN Group of Schools, Tambaram. A total of 28 schools from the city took part in the tournament.
Inter-school volleyball

Chennai District Volleyball Association will conduct its 2nd state-level inter-school tournament for boys and girls at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium from July 18 to 21.

Table tennis tourney

Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association will conduct its 3rd state-ranking tournament at SDAT- AKG Academy from July 26 to 29. Entries close on July 21. They can be sent to tnttaentries@gmail.com.

Under-15 cricket

The Jaikrishna Memorial Sports Foundation is organising an under-15 round-robin cricket tournament for schools and coaching academies from July 22, at Reddy Cricket Academy grounds, Medavakkam and Santhoshpuram. Matches will be 30 overs per side. Boys born on or after September 1, 2003, and studying in 10th standard or below are eligible to participate.
