Vadodara: When the security guard was patrolling the area outside municipal commissioner’s bungalow in Sayajibaug on Sunday morning, little did he expect that he would come across a crocodile. A two-feet long crocodile that had ventured out of Vishwamitri River crawled right in front of him at about 5 am. He immediately called up forest officials who rushed to the spot.
They rescued the crocodile and released it again in the river. Forest officials said that this is the third crocodile that ventured into Sayajibaug in last four days. On Thursday, a baby crocodile was found near the water fountain that is a few feet away from the municipal commissioner’s bungalow. “On Saturday, a morning walker spotted a two-feet long crocodile near the deer enclosure. We rescued it as well. As water level in Vishwamitri River has gone up, many baby crocodiles venture out in nights to explore the environs around them,” said a forest official.

Another three-feet long crocodile was rescued by wildlife activists from a residential area in Harni area. “The crocodile had ventured into Shukan Residency compound. We rescued it,” said Rakesh Vadhwana, wildlife activist. The forest officials said that crocodiles usually venture out in the dark and they can crawl for several kilometres.

Every year in monsoons, several crocodiles are rescued from the areas along the Vishwamitri River bank.
