The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) today demanded CBI probe into issues such as Pathalgarhi and the alleged baby trafficking racket that rocked the state in recent times.
JPCC president Dr Ajoy Kumar also accused state DGP D K Pandey of working like an RSS cadres and a government spokesman.
Addressing a press conference, Kumar said, "We demand CBI investigations into the issues such as Pathalgadi, baby trafficking racket allegedly by Nirmal Hriday, mob lynching and starvation deaths."
'Pathalgarhi' is a practice in which villagers inscribe various tenets on huge stone slabs and ban outsiders in their area.
Five women working with an NGO were allegedly raped at gunpoint by a group of at least five men, suspected to be 'Pathalgarhi' supporters, when they had gone to a village in Khunti district on June 19 to create awareness on migration and human trafficking last month.
The Nirmal Hriday of Ranchi, a shelter home run by Mother Teresa founded Missionaries of Charity, is currently in the eye of a storm following of allegations of sale of babies from there.
"The people of the state have lost faith in the BJP government in the state," Kumar claimed.
Kumar, a former IPS officer, also criticised the state DGP for the his reported statement in connection with the July 5 bandh call given by the opposition parties in protest against the Land Acquisition Act.
Prior to the bandh, DGP Pandey had commented that the government was working on "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" agenda and there was no resentment among the people, he said.
"The DGP has disreputed his post and working as an RSS cadre and a government spokesman," he said.
Former JPCC president Sukhdeo Bhagat, who was also present at the press conference, said opposition parties will stage dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan tomorrow in protest against the anti-people policies of the government and to put pressure on Governor Droupadi Murmu to withdraw the Land Acquisition Act.
The assembly is commencing from tomorrow and the party would oppose the amendments made in the Land Acquisition Act, he said.
On the confusion whether amendments were okayed by the President Ram Nath Kovind, he said, "Let the government clarify it."
Besides, the Youth Congress would also gherao the state assembly on July 18 on similar issues.
