Aussie Jones in mix at weather-affected PGA event
Australian Matt Jones is tied for third at the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic, with play suspended during the third round due to inclement weather.
Michael Kim, celebrating his 25th birthday, was three strokes clear of the field at 18 under when play at TPC Deere Run was halted on Saturday. He was three under after 13 holes of his round.
Jones was three under through 14 holes when heavy rain fell and caused the golfers to be called off the course. The 38-year-old Sydney native is in a group of five tied at 13 under.
Kim's compatriot Bronson Burgoon was alone in second place on 15 under after 14 holes of his third round.
The delay was the second of the day and third of the tournament with tournament officials unlikely to give players the green light to resume play later in the day.
Meanwhile at Gullane, Australian veteran Scott Hend has twin missions as he heads into the final round of the Scottish Open.
The 44-year-old Queenslander soared into contention with a flawless seven-under-par 63 and is just one shot behind surprise leader Jens Dantorp.
Hend is eyeing a third career win on the European tour and also late qualification for the British Open at Carnoustie starting on Thursday.
With three Open spot available to the top three players in the Scottish Open who are not already qualified, Hend thought a top 10 may be good enough to get him in.
Winning would be a good way to remove any doubt but it’s a packed leaderboard.Hend is tied second with in-form New Zealander Ryan Fox, American star Rickie Fowler, German Marcel Siem, Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick and Swede Alexander Bjork.
They are all chasing world No.322 Dantrop, who has never won a European PGA Tour event, but birdied the last three holes to claim the outright lead on 13 under par.
