Woman electrocuted as she comes into contact with a snapped power line near Thycattusserry

Heavy rain and sea erosion wreaked havoc in different parts of the district on Sunday.

One person was electrocuted after she came into contact with a snapped power line at a waterlogged area near Thycattusserry on Sunday morning .

The deceased has been identified as Subadra, 62, of Fishermen Colony.

Extensive damage

Incessant rain that lashed the district caused extensive damage to properties. Authorities said that one house was destroyed and 76 houses were damaged in the rain. The total loss was estimated at ₹14.39 lakh.

The administration has opened five relief camps, including two each at Ambalapuzha and Cherthala taluks and one at Chengannur. A total of 46 families have been rehabilitated in relief camps.

“More camps will be opened if the condition worsens,” said a Revenue Department official.

Low-lying areas in the district, especially Kuttanad region, have been inundated. The situation is also not much different in other parts of the district.

Flooding has also been reported from the Chengannur, Ambalappuzha, Cherthala, and Karthikappally taluks.

Holiday

District Collector S. Suhas has declared a holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges and anganwadis in the district on Monday in view of heavy rain.
