Vadodara: Cops in the lower rung of police force, who live in police quarters or police lines, have match-box sized houses causing difficulty for them as well as their children during special occasions and exams.
But in next few weeks children of policemen deployed in Vadodara rural police will not have to go through such difficulties while preparing for their exams. The headquarters of Vadodara rural police at Chhani has got a new library and ‘aanganwadi’ (courtyard shelter) for the staff and their children.

The library and the ‘aanganwadi’ built at a cost of Rs 30 lakh by Gujarat State Police Housing Corporation (GSPHC) will be inaugurated by Abhay Chudasama, inspector general of police of Vadodara range, on Monday.

“The policemen at constable-level live in a very small house thus if their children want to study during late hours it is just not possible for them. The new library will be very useful for them, be it preparations for competitive exams or school exams,” said Saurabh Tolumbia, superintendent of Vadodara rural police.

The library will also be useful for the cops in the constabulary so that they can prepare for exams held for posting at officer-level. Sources in GSPHC said that the library at Chhani headquarters of Vadodara rural police will be the first in a police housing campus in Vadodara district. While ‘aanganwadi’ are common in a campus having more than 100 quarters, libraries have been made only in the newly created districts.

The headquarters had an ‘aanganwadi’ operating from a building existing there, but now it will operate from a building specially constructed for it.
