LUDHIANA: Even though leading politicians and ministers have already started getting their dope tests done following the announcement by chief minister Amarinder Singh, the Ludhiana police are still waiting for the written orders to carry out the test on the cops.

The state government has recently made the dope test mandatory for all government employees, including police personnel, to eliminate drug menace.

Following this, the CM himself got his dope test done. Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, AAP leader H S Phoolka and LIP chief Simarjit Singh Bains followed suit.

Importantly, the CM made this announcement soon after the allegation of a Ludhiana-based girl who had accused DSP Daljit Singh Dhillon for forcing her into drugs. The chief minister had marked an inquiry to an IPS officer. Later, DSP Dhillon was dismissed from his service and later arrested.

When asked about the dope test of cops, Ludhiana police commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill said he was waiting for the written orders.

Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “Though the leaders and politicians are getting their dope tests done, but the police department is waiting for the written orders for the same. The dope tests of cops would be conducted according to the orders and instructions by the government.”

Inspector general of police (headquarter) Jatinder Singh Aulakh said, “The government has not released any written orders to the department on dope test of police personnel. The process will start only after receiving written orders.”

As of now, the police have a policy of annual medical examination of all cops, including their basic health checkup and also have certain parameters which help identify if the person regular consumes alcohol or take drugs.

This medical examination had been discontinued in Ludhiana for the past three years. However, the police resumed the examination this year and so far about 3500 cops, out of total 4,500 personnel, have gone through the medical test.
