RANCHI: In a shocking incident, six members of a family, including two women and two children, committed suicide allegedly out of pressure mounted on them due to prolonged disease of the only earning member of the family, business pressure and loans taken from the market.

Police said that the family includes all three generations - grandparents, their son and his wife and the two grandchildren.

"Prima facie it appears to be a suicide as four suicide notes have been found in the third floor Flat of CDM Apartment near Khajanchi Pond, where the two old age couple have hanged themselves, while the middle age lady ended her life by consuming poison and her husband died after jumping from his balcony," said Hazaribagh Sadar DSP Chandan Vats.

The two minors, the younger daughter was given poison while the elder son Aman was killed by slitting his throat, he added.

"It is written in the suicide note that since Aman could not be hanged, they had to kill him," said the DSP. As per the suicide note, the family could not bear the pressure due to prolonged disease of the only earning member of the family - Naresh Maheshwari, which further lead to enormous debts on them, he said.

The family was in dry fruits business, but due to long-term disease of Naresh, his shop remained closed for several days leading to financial crisis for the family due to which they took such a drastic step. The two old age grandparents were in their sixties, while the son and daughter in law were in their forties and the grandson and grand-daughter were of 12 years and 4 years respectively.
