HYDERABAD:  The announcement of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to allocate Rs 45,000 crore to develop Hyderabad has provided a ray of hope to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), which now hopes to tap funds for various drinking water and sewerage projects. HMWS&SB has proposed Rs 20,000 crore worth drinking water and sewerage projects in Hyderabad and for implementing the crucial projects, the Water Board is dependent on State government funds. 

The board has proposed six major projects for which detailed project reports are under various stages of preparation. Once they are completed, they would be presented to the state government for sanction of funds. In Phase-IV which will start in 2020, Water Board will take up the development of sewerage system in the peripheral circles including construction of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) at a cost of around Rs 5000 crore. Also, rehabilitation of sewerage system in the core city to reduce pollution in Musi will begin in 2019 at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore.

Meanwhile, work worth Rs 7,000 crore is in final stages of completion like development of water supply infrastructure in peripheral circles with components of service reservoirs, inlets mains, distribution network laying of 2,000 km costing Rs 1,900 crore. Ring Main along ORR Reach-I for length of 30 km costing Rs 398 crore is under progress and would be completed by December month-end. Creation of water supply infrastructure in villages within ORR limits costing around Rs 738 crore under annuity mode with seven year repayment period is under progress. Construction of 10 tmc storage reservoir at Keshapuram in Shameerpet mandal costing Rs 4,777 crore is under grounding stage.
