CHENNAI: Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, who has announced his decision to launch a political party, on Sunday voiced his support to the Chennai-Salem greenfield highway project saying “big projects like these are needed for the economic development of the state.” However, he said care should be taken to implement such projects without affecting the larger public as much as possible.
Talking to reporters outside his residence here, Rajinikanth said, "In places, land acquisition becomes inevitable, substantial compensation and land elsewhere should be offered. Projects should be implemented without affecting the livelihood of farmers as much as possible."

The actor seemingly defended the Tamil Nadu government when responding to a question on recent IT searches and other charges. "Everyone is happy to accuse the state government. But, projects need to be implemented and this government too has been doing that," the actor said.

He said a decision on when to formally launch his political party and whether to participate in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls would be taken at a right time. "Time has to come for everything. Let's wait and see," he said.

He welcomed the move to hold simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and state assemblies. "Such a move will save a lot of money and efforts," he said.

“Tamil Nadu is excelling in the education sector, much better than several other states,” Rajinikanth added.
