PATIALA: Following the death of a woman in a hospital, farmers along with the villagers and family members of the deceased staged a protest on Sunday in front of a private hospital in the city.
The deceased has been identified as Shanti Devi, 50, who hails from Ulana village of Ghanaur division. Shanti died in the Janak Surgicare and Ankur Advanced Urology centre on Sunday morning, following which the family members alleged negligence by the doctors. They raised their voice against the doctors and claimed that the patient had died of negligence after the doctors had wrongly cut her chord that was not supposed to be detached from the main organ.
According to the family members, she was brought to hospital three days back after she complained of a pain in her kidneys and stomach due to suspected stones in her kidneys.
The family added that doctors had carelessly treated her in the hospital and even demanded Rs one lakh to be deposited while the treatment was underway.
Moorti Devi, a relative of the deceased woman said, "We demand an inquiry against the erring doctors and they should be punished for their crime. The patient had died following the negligence of doctors who were irresponsible and careless while treating the patient. We protested after the doctors refused to give the body too demanding the money from us. They had detached a chord wrongly and then failed to stop the bleeding. To make money doctors kept the patient for two days under observation and kept changing her bandages instead of referring to the higher institute.”
Meanwhile, police claimed that a panel of doctors has been formed to conduct the post-mortem and the probe in this matter was on.
It is learned that the private hospital authorities have political back and support of top corporation officials of the ruling Congress government.

Civil Lines Police station, Jatinder Pal Singh, said, "The BKU farmer union along with villagers and family members of the deceased protested against the hospital authorities and the doctors alleging
medical negligence. A complaint has been registered and according to rules, the postmortem is being conducted by a panel of doctors. The case will only be registered on recommendations of the doctor’s panel conducting the autopsy. The report will make it clear about the death occurred due to negligence or not."
Doctor Ankur Bansal, at the Janak Surgicare centre, said, "The woman was traced with stones in her both the kidneys that she had survived for four years. We operated both and fixed the tube at one side but then need was felt to replace it. For this, we gave anaesthesia injection to the patient but she got cardiac arrest with it."
