7-year-old Surat boy falls in open manhole, body found after search of five hours

SURAT: In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old boy named Rohan R Bhil, resident of Girnar Society, Nana Varachha died after falling in an open manhole of drainage line near Nana Varachha police chowki in Kapodra police station area on Sunday afternoon.

Fire officials were able to find his body 1 km away from where he had fallen into the manhole after search operation of nearly five hours. His body was taken to SMIMER hospital.


According to witnesses, following heavy downpour in the city, water was gushing down the drain lines from different parts of the road. Rohan, along with water was flown in the open manhole of drain line. Someone saw this and alerted the fire officials, who rushed to the spot and started searching the boy.

Vasant Parikh, chief fire officer said, “ We sent two of our people in the manhole with oxygen masks to look for the boy. However, distance of Tapi river outlet from the manhole in which the boy fell is about 1 km and after five hours of search, we have found the boy (body).”
