Paddy MSP: Assembly panel to meet President

A House Committee on Paddy MSP led by Assembly Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat on Friday decided to meet President Ram Nath Kovind and urge him to consider Odisha’s demand of increasing paddy MSP to Rs 2,930 per quintal.

The committed took this decision at meeting held in the Assembly premises under chairmanship of Amat on Friday.

All committee members, excepting BJP’s KV Singh Deo and MLA Bibhuti Harichandan, attended the meeting.

It is to be noted that while a unanimous resolution passed in the State Assembly wants that the paddy MSP be raised to Rs 2,930, the Union Government has recently increased the MSP by Rs 200 to Rs 1,750 and claimed the amount to be 1.5 times of the production cost.

It may be noted that even though a delegation of the committee had sought an appointment for a meeting with the Prime Minster Narendra Modi to discuss over the issue in 2017, the PM did not meet the team for which Congress and BJD members had protested during the Budget session of the State Assembly.
