Monsoon gives lease of life to dams, reservoirs

JAIPUR: With continued monsoon, some of the major dams and reservoirs in the state have got elevation in its water level. Some of the dams are 94% full to its capacity, while Bisalpur dam providing drinking water to Tonk, Ajmer and Jaipur, is yet to get close to its full capacity. Against the full capacity of 315.50 RL/metre, the dam has got up to 309.15 RL/meter. Till Saturday, the state has got 11.3% higher rainfall compared to what it had got in 2017.



The continued rainfall in the southern Rajasthan has given a new lease of life to the water reservoirs and dams.

Water level at the Kota Barraj dam situated in Kota has reached up to 259.26 RL/metre against the full capacity of 260.30 RL/metre. Likewise, Jawahar Sagar has reached up to 296.66 RL/metre against the full capacity of 298.70 RL/metre. Banswara situated Mahi dam has reached up to 271.05 RL/metre against the full capacity of 281.50 RL/metre.

“Bisalpur dam which caters to the drinking water needs of Tonk, Ajmer and Jaipur districts of the state. The two spells of the monsoon so far has not brought good water in its catchment area. Hopefully this will get some water in the next spell,” said an officer with the water resources department.

Till Saturday, the state has received a rainfall of 143.79 mm which is 11.3% higher compared to 129.10 mm received till July 14, 2017.

The districts which have received abnormal rainfall which means they have got 60 percent or above rainfall compared to 2017 included - Bikaner, Churu, Dungarpur, Sikar. However, the districts including Barmer, Bundi, Jalore, Pali and Sirohi were yet to receive a good spell of monsoon rainfall as they have got deficit rainfall so far.

In its forecast Jaipur met office said that heavy to very rainfall is likely to take place in the eastern Rajasthan in the next 24 hours.
