This vessel will always be Boaty McBoatface to most of the public, after a March 2016 poll voted that as the name for the new polar research ship.
Officially, though, the ship is the RSS Sir David Attenborough, and the man himself was there on the banks of the Mersey for the send-off on Saturday.
