A girl baby who was found abandoned a year ago is now all set to fly to the U.S. to be with her new parents. Baby Anvitha has been adopted by a couple settled in Tennessee.

The newborn was found with peacock bites close to a resort near Sriramadevara Katte on Hassan-Holenarsipur Road on July 13, 2017. Bhavya, an employee of the resort, noticed the baby in a pool of blood and took her to a hospital in Holenarsipur and then to Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS).

Lakshmikanth, who was the first to treat the baby at Holenarsipur, suspected that a group of peacocks might have attacked the baby. She was kept in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in HIMS and the doctors took care of the baby and she recovered. Later, the district Child Welfare Committee handed over the baby to Thavaru Charitable Trust in Hassan that provides shelter for abandoned babies.

Cory Jay Determann and Catherine Lee Determann of Tennessee adopted the baby after obtaining no-objection certificates from the U.S. and India governments. “The legal procedure for adoption has been completed. The baby is yet to get passport. Once she gets it, the couple will arrive to take home the baby,” said H.S. Phalaksha, Managing Trustee.

The trust celebrated Anvitha’s first birthday on Friday. Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri, who took part in the celebrations, said: “I’m glad the baby has been adopted. The girl with wounds all over the body recovered at HIMS. This shows the quality of medical service at HIMS.”
