The problem of dealing with unwanted and pesky calls has grown multifold over the years. While there are third-party apps that do help you in tackling the issue, it still wasn’t that foolproof. Google, however, is now armed with a feature that will take care of the problem. In April this year, tech giant Google started a beta programme for the Google Phone app to test a new feature to detect spam calls. Google has now updated the support page of the Phone app to notify the changes which will help users filter spam calls.

The feature is called ‘Caller ID and spam protection’. As per the updated page, the Phone app can now filter out calls by automatically detecting spam calls. The app sends unwanted calls directly to the voicemail. “When you make or get a call with caller ID and spam protection on, you can see information about callers or businesses not in your contacts or warnings about potential spam callers.”, the support page reads.

To activate the feature, one needs to follow three easy steps -- visit Settings, select Caller ID & spam and turn it on.

‘To stop spam calls from ringing on your phone, turn on Filter suspected spam calls’, the page reads further. This step is completely optional and depends on individual’s choice.

Presently, the Phone app turns the mobile screen red to notify incoming spam calls. However, there are questions about its functionality. So it’s not completely clear how effective and efficient this new feature will be but it is still a handy option to have.
