Will Chelsea's latest signing spark new Everton interest in England midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek?

The London club today confirmed the capture of Jorginho from Napoli - but could that lead to other potential business for the Stamford Bridge outfit?

Chelsea's Loftus-Cheek is currently away with the England squad at the World Cup in Russia.

The 22-year-old spent last term on loan with Crystal Palace and produce a number of impressive performances at Selhurst Park, which have led to rumours of a possible transfer over the last few weeks.

Numerous Premier League clubs have been linked with a potential swoop for the England international including Everton - who were the favourites with the bookies at one stage to be the midfielder's next club.

And the signing of Jorginho will only increase competition in his position at Chelsea next season.

Since sending Loftus-Cheek on loan Chelsea have signed three central midfielders in Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko - whilst N'Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas still command regular starting positions.

Rumours surfaced at the end of June that the Stamford Bridge side could be tempted to send Loftus-Cheek on loan once more, but were not interested in selling the promising talent.

The 22-year-old himself spoke last month about his aims for next season, and made clear he wanted a good amount of playing time - wherever that might be.

“That’s the key for me next season regarding where I end up: I want to play,” he said .

“I want to play as much as I can. And even this past season I didn’t play as much as I would have liked, because of the injuries and stuff, so I still feel I need a proper season of playing, wherever it is.

"It’s hard to keep training at your best but I made sure I did for when the time came, or when I did get opportunities like at Palace. We’ll see what happens. I’m confident in my ability and that I can do well, wherever it is."

New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri will be assessing his squad ahead of the new season over the next few weeks following the sacking of Antonio Conte, which was officially announced on Friday.

Everton, meanwhile, are currently on a pre-season training camp in Austria as Marco Silva gets to work on his current squad of players.
