Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, including an officer, were killed when militants ambushed their column in Acchabal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday morning. Another trooper and a civilian were injured in the shootout by banned outfit Lashker-e-Tayyeba.

Official sources said that vehicle-borne militants attacked the CRPF patrolling party during a routine patrol in the area.

They said three paramilitary personnel and a civilian sustained bullet wounds in the shootout. They were immediately taken to Accabal hospital where two personnel succumbed to their injuries in a time span of one hour after the attack. One of the slain cops was identified as Assistant Sub Inspector ML Meena.

Last year, militants had ambushed a police vehicle in the same area and killed Station House Officer (SHO) of Acchabal police station and his five guards.

The attack had been carried out by LeT’s dreaded commander Bashir Lashkari who was killed a few weeks later.
