MOHALI: A man who had been deported from the UK more than a year back allegedly bludgeoned his wife to death with a frying pan at their house in Zirakpur on Thursday night.
Mamandeep Kaur, 28, was found lying a pool of blood in a room of her three-bedroom flat at Mona Greens 1 on VIP Road. Her husband, Gurpreet Singh, 31, a resident of Bhagta Bhai Ka village, is absconding. Family members of the victim said he had been forcing his wife to take money from her parents to buy a car. The couple used to have arguments over the issue daily, they said.

Source said the two had celebrated their first wedding anniversary just 18 days back.

Around 10pm, the accused called up his friend, Harjeet Singh, saying that his wife had got injured. When Harjeet reached, the accused met him outside and told the main door was locked from inside. Both entered through a window. The accused told Harjeet that Mamandeep had died and asked him to drop him to a place outside Zirakpur. Harjeet refused, asking him to take her to a hospital. However, the accused fled. Harjeet informed the neighbours, who then told the police.

Zirakpur station house office Pawan Kumar said a murder case was registered against the accused on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Gurdev Singh.
