The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the State Government to pay Rs 1 lakh to a minor student, whose hair had been cut in the classroom by his Class Teacher in a Government school in Sundargarh  in January 2015.

Considering a petition filed by rights activist and lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy, the NHRC has issued a direction to the Chief Secretary in this regard and asked him to submit a report within four weeks.

Jaysmita Sa (35), a teacher of the Bileigarh Project Upper Primary School under the Rajgangpur police limits, had been arrested and forwarded to court for allegedly cutting a 14-year-old tribal boy student’s hair and making him half-bald in the classroom in January 2015.

Humiliated, the victim boy went missing for a couple of days.

His father Kartika Majhi lodged an FIR with the Rajgangpur police alleging that his son Biraj was missing after being humiliated in the classroom.

Considering all details and the replies filed by the State authorities, the commission has asked the Chief Secretary to pay Rs 1 lakh to the victim, Biraj Majhi, as his human right was violated by a teacher, who is a public servant.

The NHRC also asked him to submit compliance report along with proof of payment within four weeks, informed Nayak.
