Two persons died and four were injured in a road accident on the Pune- Bengaluru national highway in Belagavi district on Saturday. The victims were travelling in a KSRTC bus that hit a divider and skidded alongside the road near Badekollada Matha in Belagavi taluk. The Karnataka Sarige day journey bus was going to Udupi from Belagavi.
Ashok Dandi, 60, from Nichchaniki village in Belagavi district, died on the spot. Police are yet to identify the other deceased. Dandi was one of the two passengers to use a pass. There were 18 passengers on the bus, with 16 buying tickets.
The injured have been admitted to the government hospital in Hirebagewadi. KSRTC officers said they were recovering.
The accident caused a traffic jam on the highway. Police had to use an earth-mover to remove the bus and make way for other vehicles.
Police from Hirebagewadi have registered a complaint.
