A country boat carrying over 40 people, mostly school and college students returning home, capsized in the Godavari at Pasuvullanka near I. Polavaram in East Godavari district at about 5 p.m.

Mob kills man on suspicion of being child lifter in Bidar

An angry mob killed a man and injured two others on the suspicion of being child-lifters in Murki village in Aurad taluk, in Bidar district on Friday.

The deceased Mohammed Azam and the two others injured Talha Ismail and Mohammed Salman, all hail from Hyderabad. They were travelling along with their friend Mohammed Bashir to Handikera village in Aurad taluk. Mr. Bashir, who works in Hyderabad, had invited them to his native village.

The Income Tax Department has decided to re-assess the ITRs of over 50 high net-worth individuals (HNIs) who purchased costly jewellery from firms owned by absconding diamantaire Nirav Modi, official sources said on Saturday.

They said the taxman decided to initiate the step after a number of people, it sent notices asking them to explain the source of income for purchase of the jewellery, denied any cash payment made by them to Mr. Nirav Modi’s firms.
