Central Railway earns Rs 59.36 crores from ticketless, irregular travelers


Mumbai: The Central Railway (CR) registered ticket checking earnings of Rs 59.36 crore for the period April 2018 to June 2018 in its intensive campaign against ticketless and irregular travel.

In its endeavour to provide better services to bona fide rail users and also to curb the ticketless travel, CR has regularly taken innovative steps.

A senior officers are closely monitoring the revenue loss due to ticket-less travel and such other irregularities.


In the month of June 2018, a total of 3.26 lakh cases of ticket less/irregular travel and unbooked luggage were detected as against 2.58 lakh cases in the corresponding month of last year ie June 2017, showing an increase of 26.52 per cent. The earnings realised from such ticket less/irregular travel registered Rs. 17.20 crore during the month of June 2018 showing an increase of 34.62 per cent as compared to earnings of Rs.12.78 crore registered during the corresponding month of last year i.e. June 2017.

CR has detected in all10.85 lakh cases of ticket less/irregular travel and unbooked luggage during the period April 2018 to June 2018, as against 9.83 lakh cases detected during the corresponding period last year, showing an increase of 10.42 per cent.

The earnings realised during the period from April 2018 to June 2018 from ticket less/irregular travel registered Rs 59.36 crore as against Rs 54.00 crore registered during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 9.91 per cent in earnings.

In addition during the month of June 2018, 391 cases of transfer of reserved journey tickets were detected and Rs 4.00 lakh recovered as penalty. CR appeals to the passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets in order to avoid inconvenience and travel with dignity.
