Employees hold 'mass dharna' against banking, insurance sector reforms

HYDERABAD: A 'mass dharna' was held on Saturday in all the state capitals across the country by Bank and Insurance Employees against banking and insurance sector reforms.

A Co-ordination Committee of Bank, Insurance and Finance Sector Unions (CCBIFU) has been formed recently.

All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA), General Insurance Employees All India Association (GIEAIA) and All India LIC Employees Federation were the constituents of this Co-ordination Committee.

In Chennai, the agitation was held in front of LIC office in Parry's corner in which more than 500 activists from banks and insurance sector participated, AIBEA General Secretary Ch Venkatachalam, who is the Chairman of CCBIFU, told UNI.

The 'dharna' was held against privatisation of banks, disinvestment in General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re), outsourcing of jobs in banks and other state-run insurance players and FDI in the insurance sector besides others.
