Coimbatore: The State Lorry Owner’s Federation (SLOF) will participate in the indefinite strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress from July 20 demanding reduction in fuel price, third party premium insurance and toll fee.
Over 4.5 lakh trucks will keep off the roads in Tamil Nadu, state president of the federation MR Kumarasamy said here on Saturday. “The revenue loss will be as high as Rs 300 crore to Rs 400 crore a day. We will not withdraw the strike until the Central government fulfils our demands. Several other unions including autos, mini lorry and van have extend their support to the strike,” he said.

The booking agent association will stop taking orders from July 15, Kumarasamy said and requested the public not to use vehicles for 12 hours from 6am on July 22 in order to extend their support. The strike is not just for the welfare of the lorry owners, but also for the welfare of the public, he said, demanding that the Central government should bring diesel under the slab of goods and service tax (GST).

The government should take measures to close all toll plazas and check the increase in insurance premium, he added.
