Mumbai: On Friday, a bench of the Supreme Court dismissed the state government’s Special Leave Petition (SLP) against the Bombay High Court’s decision which stated that no reservation would be given to SC/ST and OBC category students in minority colleges.
The University of Mumbai issued a circular on Friday evening, which directs affiliated colleges to strictly adhere to the schedule of admission.
The circular also mentions that the second merit list will be displayed on Saturday, July 14, at 5pm. Verification of documents and payment of fees will be done on July 16,17 and 18 till 2 pm. The third and fourth merit lists will be displayed on July 18 and the verification of documents and payment of fees will be from July 19 to July 20, 2018 until 2pm.
Dr Liladhar Bansod, deputy registrar (Public Relations) of the University of Mumbai, released a press note on the Special Leave Petition(SLP) against Bombay High Court, which states the government of Maharashtra had filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the November 2017 Bombay High Court order as the order states that there will be no reservation for the reserved category in minority educational institutions and this amendment was made referring to Article 15(5) in 2006.
The Supreme Court gave the argument by the Government of Maharashtra a sympathetic ear for 25 minutes but some appeals had already been challenged before the amendment so the honourable court rejected the plea, Bansod’s press note added.
