Delhi: Live wires touch rainwater, kill 4 pedestrians in 24 hours

NEW DELHI: Four people lost their lives on Friday in cases of electrocution under circumstances created by the incessant rains in the capital.

In the first incident, a 20-year-old youth died after being electrocuted from a mast light in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase III. The victim, Rahul Kumar Thakkar, worked with a food delivery company.

Probe revealed that Thakkar had gone to deliver food in a building. As he was parking his motorcycle, it slipped and he fell in a puddle of water near a mast lamp. The youth suffered an electric shock and became unconscious. He was pulled out and rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Another incident of electrocution was reported from Mayur Vihar Phase I when a 20-year-old youth, Mohammad Meherban, died while walking on the service road. According to the police, there was a puddle of water on the service road and an electric wire from a nearby lamp post had been exposed to it. Meherban got electrocuted and died on the spot.

In the third incident, a 28-year-old man died after he fell into a puddle near DBG road in Karol Bagh while returning home. The victim, Suresh Kumar, had a cable business and got electrocuted on the pavement after a live wire had got exposed to the water.

Also on Saturday, a 10-year-old kid died after getting electrocuted in southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar. The victim, Sultan, had accidently touched an electric pole. A case of negligent conduct with respect to machinery (287) and causing death due to negligence (304A) was registered.
