CB to take Tito on 3 more days’ remand

The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) here on Friday granted permission the Crime Branch (CB) to take gangster Syed Usman Ali, alias Tito, on remand for another three days.

Earlier in the day, the Crime Branch had produced the gangster before the court after his four-day remand period came to an end. CB officials appealed to the SDJM Court to allow them to take the notorious criminal for three more days’ remand.

Earlier, the CB had taken Tito on remand twice. While the gangster was taken on a five-day remand after his arrest following an encounter, the second remand period was of four days.

In another development, a team of Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch consisting of a DSP and two woman Inspectors interrogated Tito’s wife Benazir Bibi at her residence at Dilarpur  here for one and a half hours to extract more information about her assets like a petrol pump, BIPL company, Audi car and other movable and immovable properties.

The investigating officers also visited the CSO’s office here to inquire about the allocation of a petrol pump in her name.

In yet another related development, former Kendrapada Councillor Hifzul Rehman was summoned and quizzed at the STF office in Bhubaneswar about his links with Tito.

A case has been registered by the STF to ascertain the illegal properties of Tito acquired by organised crimes, tender fixings, extortion and robbery. In this connection, a petrol pump and BIPL company have been sealed.

Another case has been registered against Tito and his associates for threatening a contractor, who is undertaking a contract in Aul under the Pattamundai irrigation division for Rs 7 crore to extract extortion to a tune of Rs 70 lakh.

Besides, a case against Tito and his associates has been registered for forcibly grabbing landed property at gunpoint.
