Vadodara: City police kept strict vigil to avoid any untoward incident during the Jagannath Rath Yatra, but it was pickpockets who kept them busy all the time.
Teams of police nabbed five thieves and nine suspects from various areas on the route of the Rath Yatra. Prevention of crime branch (PCB) sleuths nabbed four women and a man — Hansa Dantaniya, Asha Vaghela, Radha Dantaniya, Asha Devipujak and Dilip Devipujak — on suspicion. When the cops frisked them, they found pairs of earrings and chains. A cutter and Rs 4,340 cash was also found on them.

They told the cops that they targeted women while they were crowding to get ‘prasad’ in the Rath Yatra. The thieves used cutters to get the earrings and chains.

Detection of crime branch also picked up nine persons on suspicion of targeting devotees. Meanwhile, a retired school teacher who had come to Nyay Mandir to pay his respects lost Rs 10,000 cash from his pocket.tnn
