KOLKATA: Three thousand houses have been built in Jadavpur area of south Kolkata by filling up wetlands. The primary investigation report contains that most of these houses are built by forging documents.Even multi-storied buildings have been built in these areas without changing the character of wetland. Even a mild earthquake can bring down these houses. Municipal Commissioner Khalil Ahamed have ordered for detailed investigation. He attended a meeting with municipal and police officers.
In the meeting it was decided that the documents of 3000 houses at Panchasayar, east Jadavpur and Survey Park area under Jadavpur assembly constituency will be checked by municipal officers.
Municipal officers will check if the conversion of land at the time of building the house was done or not, if approval of conversion was given by a government officer or building plan of the house is all right or not.
Officers of assessment section, building section, PMU, land surveyor section of municipality, fishery department of state government and Kolkata police are part of the investigation team. Investigation is to be done within one month and after that report should be submitted to the Municipal Commissioner.
It has been decided that CCTV cameras will be installed in front of wetlands. Local administration will break down illegal houses and dig new ponds there.
