Teen tries to steal phone in Chennai

The Chennai city police arrested an 18-year-old boy for allegedly attempting to snatch a mobile phone from a man in the city on Thursday night.

CHENNAI: The Chennai city police arrested an 18-year-old boy for allegedly attempting to snatch a mobile phone from a man in the city on Thursday night.

An officer said, “Shaddiq Ahmed (24), who works at a shoe showroom in a mall in Royapettah, was going back home by two-wheeler. When he was near the junction of Greams Road and Moores Road, three men riding a two-wheeler blocked Shaddiq and one of them riding pillion snatched his mobile phone. As the trio were about to escape, Shaddiq raised an alarm and constable Saravanan from the Egmore police station caught the accused.”

While Saravanan was able to catch hold of the one at the back of the bike, the other two fled.  The accused has been identified as a B Com student.
