Two people suffered severe injuries following sudden explosion of explosive material at a construction site in Puppalaguda of Narsingi police station area on Friday.

The site supervisor and the driver of the tipper in which the explosive material was brought apparently for blasting rocks sustained serious injuries. They were identified as Paspula Naresh (27), of Annasagar in Mahbubnagar and Pathi Ramesh (25) of Shankerpally.

They were rushed to a corporate hospital in Gachchibowli. Madhapur Deputy Commissioner of Police A Venkateshwar Rao said the blast occurred around 6.40 p.m.

“The tipper belonged to Durga Bhavani Enterprises which supplies explosives to builders for blasting rocks. Its owner is yet to be traced,” the investigators said. What triggered the explosion is yet to be ascertained.

“The explosive material went off after it was unloaded from the truck and being taken to a point at the construction site,” the police said. Glass panes of an adjacent apartment were shattered due to the impact of the explosion.

However, none of the occupants of the apartment was injured.
