Bhopal: With heavy rains posh colonies face flooding again

Bhopal: Several covered campus of posh colonies faced flooding due to heavy rain in the state capital on intervening night of Wednesday- Thursday. Waterlogging affected the Jhatkhedi area of the city almost entirely. In many covered campuses the extent of flooding was such that the waterlogging reached knee-deep level.

The residents remained engaged in siphoning water from their kitchen garden, porch of their premises. Mahim Mishra, resident of Pebble Dream, said, “ Residential colonies of Jhatkhedi areas  like Ruchi Landscape, Golden city were affected with waterlogging as the rain water gushed toward Katara Hills.”

“Non-channeling of nullah made the problem worse. The situation in the slums was worst and the dwellers had had no option but to shift their household items to safer abode,” added Mishra. Besides, Habibganj under bridge was flooded so much that it became impossible for people to wade through the water logging.

Scene at 11-number bus stop was the same- where the entire cross road was flooded. Road passing through RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration was also heavily waterlogged. Even four wheelers faced problems in wading through the waterlogged roads.

People faced similar hassles near 1100 quarter temple due to blocked road side outlets. Last week also the road was heavily waterlogged. In Chuna Bhatti area, which is developed at Shahpura Lake, the residents living on lake side faced flood like situation.

Taking lesson of last time flood many residents in the locality have constructed a curtain wall jut to prevent the rainy water.  However, this time even in the presence of curtain walls the rainy water gushed into their campus. Mukul Purohit of Chuna Bhatti, said, “We constructed curtain wall but residents demolished curtain wall as rainy water started increasing on their side. We had to siphon the rainy water from our campus from morning to afternoon.”

Administration team led by SDM rushed to take the stock of flood like situation. The administration had a similar experience of flood in 2016 last. In 2016, owners of costly duplexes in the same localities witnessed in horror as their cars floated in flooding in their covered campus like Ruchi Landscape, Golden City, Rishi Nagar, Laharpur, RKDF Engineering College, (Hoshangabad Road). Within then span of just two years, state capital is witnessing the flood like situation the cycle repeating itself as residents are hassled and administration is mute spectator.
